A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has expressed confidence that recent defections from the party will not affect its chances in the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

Speaking with journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye described the defections as a normal feature of electioneering politics, insisting that the APC remains strong, united, and well-positioned to reclaim power in the state.

According to him, the party’s structure remains intact across the state, adding that its strength goes beyond any individual member or group.

“The APC in Osun is bigger than any individual or group of individuals,” Oyintiloye said.

“Our party is built on a solid foundation that has endured for decades. We have a resilient structure, loyal membership, and an ever-expanding support base. Those who think the APC has been weakened are completely out of touch with realities on the ground.”

The former lawmaker maintained that the party enjoys widespread grassroots support across wards, polling units, and local government areas in the state, stressing that residents remain committed to the APC.

He also described the emergence of the party’s governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, as a major boost for the party ahead of the election.

Oyintiloye said the candidate’s popularity and acceptance across different segments of society had further strengthened the APC’s prospects.

“There is no community in Osun today where the AMBO movement is not gaining massive momentum,” he said.

“His support cuts across party lines, religion, age, and professions. No other candidate commands the kind of goodwill, credibility, and popularity that AMBO enjoys right now.”

He noted that the party remains focused on mobilisation efforts and internal reconciliation, adding that engagements with stakeholders have continued to strengthen unity within its ranks.

Oyintiloye urged party leaders and members to remain committed to grassroots campaigns and avoid distractions, expressing confidence that the APC would secure a convincing victory at the polls.

“Our structures are intact, our supporters are energised, and our candidate enjoys overwhelming acceptance. We are confident and fully prepared for victory,” he declared.

He, however, advised the party leadership to promptly address grievances among members to prevent further defections, noting that every member remains important in the party’s quest to reclaim Osun State and deliver what he described as people-oriented governance.
