The Odionwere (oldest man), Pa Asiboja, elder-in-council, and the entire Orhua community, in Uhunmwode local government area, the ancestral home of Edo-born billionaire businessman, Idahosa Wells Okunbo, have come out in strong terms to denounce the insinuation that the ill health of the chairman of Ocean Marines Solutions, OMS was because the ancestors were angry with him. One Osazuwa Ugiagbe had alleged in a report on social media that the “Ancestors of Orhua are angry with Captain Hosa because he did not use the money he spent on a certain evil venture to develop Orhua,” an allegation the community described as false.

Okunbo’s kinsmen also lashed out at peddlers of his rumoured death, declaring that he was alive and well. In a statement in Benin on Sunday, they wondered how Ugiagbe, who is not from the village, and some others which comprise the Irhue clan, would always join detractors to mock the community.

Describing Okunbo, popularly called Captain Hosa, as an illustrious son who had done very well for his Orhua people and in the affairs of men, the Odionwere asserted that “he is a prophet honoured at home and abroad,” stressing that “Orhua community places great values on the children, particularly their children, hence they could go to any length to protect them”.

Asiboja queried how Ugiagbe got to know about the “angry ancestors”, declaring that Captain Hosa had remained “a generous and progressive minded personality, who had benefited his village and is loved by all”, noting that he had continued in the worthy footsteps of his grandfather, Pa Okunbo Igiewe and his immediate father, Rev. Robert Amos Okunbo, who though had both passed on, are still respected by the people of the village.

Condemning Okunbo’s rumoured death, the Odionwere said it was evil for anyone to have claimed that their son was dead, “whereas he was hale, hearty and alive in overseas, where he travelled to”. He said it was “a most unthinkable thing to have been instigated by men and women who were created by God…” and called on Captain Hosa, not to be deterred by “unjust comments” by some people, but to continue to work for the progress of the society and forgive those who wronged him, as he would be rewarded accordingly by God.

Assuring Okunbo of the community’s prayers and support, the Odionwere thanked Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin, “for his fatherly disposition” to Captain Hosa, and also urged men and women of goodwill to do same.
