Edo House of Assembly on Monday passed the state’s 2025 Appropriation Bill, jacking up the original figure presented by Governor Monday Okpebholo on December 10, 2024, from 605, 776, 065, 857 billion to over 675 billion, an increase of over 70bn.
The passage of the Appropriation Bill, tagged “Budget of Renewed Hope for a Rising Edo”, followed the adoption of the report of the House Committee on Budget and Project Monitoring at plenary.
Presenting the report, the chairman of the committee, Sunday Fada, (PDP Esan Central) said the budget was made up of 225 billion recurrent expenditure and 451 billion capital expenditure against the initial figures of 223 billion, for recurrent expenditure, and 381 billion for capital expenditure.
Justifying the increase in the budgetary allocation, Fada said it was to enable the governor carry out his five-point agenda for the state.
The House, at the committee of Supply, considered the budget clause by clause and subsequently, approved the increase from 605.7 billion to N675 billion.
The Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, thereafter, directed the clerk of the House, Yahaya Omogbai, to forward clean copies of the approved budget to the governor for his assent.
