Rioters have taken over the streets in parts of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area in Port Harcourt after a policeman shot dead a tricycle operator at Rukpokwu on Thursday morning.
The rioters have totally shut down economic and social activities along Owerri Road leading up to Rumuokoro Junction by the East-West road as they protested the killing.
Many people going to work or for their businesses had to trek long distances to get to where they could get transportation.
The police were enforcing an executive order by the Governor, Nyesom Wike, banning the use of tricycles in some parts of Port Harcourt when while confronting the deceased shot him dead.
The result was an instant protest by youths and alleged tricycle operators in the area.
It is coming as a judicial panel of enquiry in Port Harcourt is investigating stories of police brutality against some citizens in Rivers State.
