Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has been named coordinator of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign in Osun State by the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a political development that has attracted attention because the governor belongs to a different party.
The appointment was contained in the revised APC Presidential Campaign Council list released on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, ahead of the formal inauguration of the council by President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.
Adeleke, who won re-election as Osun governor in August 2026 on the platform of the Accord Party, is expected to coordinate the President’s campaign activities in the state as political parties begin preparations for the 2027 general elections.
His inclusion in the APC campaign structure highlights the growing cross-party alliances emerging ahead of the presidential election.
The development is particularly significant in Osun, where the APC and Accord Party remain separate political platforms, even as Adeleke has expressed support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
According to reports, Adeleke’s Imole Campaign Council welcomed the appointment. Its Director-General, Senator Olalere Oyewumi, reportedly pledged to mobilise 1.5 million votes for Tinubu in 2027 and expressed support for the President’s re-election bid.
Adeleke’s political camp has maintained that the governor remains a member of the Accord Party, with his support for Tinubu not amounting to a defection to the ruling APC.
The Osun governor is not the only prominent politician outside the APC to receive a strategic role in the revised campaign council.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was named coordinator of Tinubu’s campaign in Rivers State and the FCT.
Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) was also appointed coordinator for the President’s campaign in Anambra State.
The appointments indicate the APC’s effort to assemble a broad political coalition ahead of the 2027 presidential election, bringing together figures whose political affiliations extend beyond the ruling party.
Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was named Director of Finance, while Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Nigeria Revenue Service Chairman Zacch Adedeji were assigned fundraising responsibilities.
Former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari retained his position as Director-General of the campaign council.
Tinubu will chair the council, with Vice-President Kashim Shettima serving as Vice-Chairman I and APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda as Vice-Chairman II. Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was named secretary.
Former Osun governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola was assigned the role of Deputy National Coordinator I for stakeholders’ mobilisation in the South-West. Former Osun governor Bisi Akande and former deputy governor Iyiola Omisore were also listed among the campaign advisers.
Adeleke’s appointment comes amid broader political realignments as politicians and parties position themselves ahead of the next general elections.
The revised campaign council list updates an earlier version released in August and is expected to provide the organisational framework for Tinubu’s re-election campaign across the country.
The inclusion of serving governors and prominent political figures from different parties underscores the importance the APC is placing on mobilisation beyond its traditional party structure as it prepares for the 2027 contest.
