A convoy of vehicles carrying the advance team of presidential aides to Daura, Katsina State was ambushed by gunmen at Dutsinma, Katsina State on Tuesday. The aides comprise security personnel, protocol staff and media officers. According to Garba Shehu, senior special assistant on media and publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari, the gunmen attacked the convoy from their hideout in the bush. The combined team of military, police and DSS personnel repelled the attack.
However, two of the aides were wounded and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment.
The team was headed for Daura, President Buhari’s hometown where he is expected to spend the weekend to celebrate Eid El Kabir on Saturday.
The attack is the latest in the series of attacks by bandits who have been more notorious for killing and kidnapping for ransom in the Northwest and North central geo-political zones. Many people have been killed or held hostage pending payment of ransom by their families. Scores of victims are still in captivity.
