President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a major restructuring across Nigeria’s education sector, confirming new leadership for key federal institutions. The shake-up is designed to drive institutional reform, enhance technical education standards, and ensure the completion of critical national projects.

The appointments, announced on Wednesday by Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, include leadership changes at the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the National Library of Nigeria, and the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam.

Key Leadership Changes

  • NECO: Professor Modupe Adeola Adelabu, a former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State and experienced educational administrator, has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Governing Board. Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi is retained as the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer to ensure administrative consistency.
  • NBTE: Professor Babatunde Salako, a renowned researcher and former Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, has been named the new Chairman of the Governing Board. This follows the recent reappointment of Professor Idris M. Bugaje, who continues his work as the Executive Secretary.
  • National Library of Nigeria: Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi has had her tenure renewed for a final five-year term. Her continued leadership is a strategic move to prioritize the completion of the National Library Headquarters project in Abuja and the full implementation of the 2025–2030 Strategic Plan.
  • Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam: Engr. Dr. Bongfa Binfa has been appointed as the new Rector for a single five-year term. Dr. Binfa, a mechanical engineering expert with extensive academic experience, succeeds the institution’s pioneer Rector, Dr. Mukaila Zakari Ya’u.

These strategic appointments underscore the administration’s focus on stabilizing governance within the Ministry of Education. By blending seasoned academic leadership with retained institutional expertise, the presidency aims to accelerate ongoing reforms in exam integrity, technical vocational training, and the modernization of Nigeria’s digital knowledge repositories.
