Jones Ayuwo, the lecturer of the University of Port Harcourt, kidnapped about a month ago in Ogoniland, has been freed by his captors.

There were yet no details about how he regained his freedom, but attention was drawn to his residence at the university Tuesday morning when family and friends were singing praises to celebrate his return.

Both Ayuwo and family members did not take journalists’ questions as they continued in their praise and worship sessions.

But Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the release of the lecturer. He said he would give the details in a press release he was still compiling.

Ayuwo was kidnapped while returning from a Bible translation project in Andoni. He was kidnapped the same night that Aaron Ikuru, the Paramount ruler of Ikuru Town in Andoni was kidnapped from his palace. There is no news yet about the whereabouts of Ikuru.
