Andrew Efemini, a professor of Philiosphy in Development at the University of Port Harcourt, has died few days after he was nominated for the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics) of the university.
Efemini, who recently celebrated his 30 years of surviving diabetes, died on Saturday at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.
He was nominated DVC only on Wednesday and the nomination was awaiting the approval of the Governing Council of the university.
A vocal voice on public affairs, the deceased was an active member of the civil society community in Port Harcourt.
His passing has been confirmed by the Vice-Chancellor, Owunari Georgewill, who said Efemini was a man of ideas, who had contributed immensely to the growth of the university.
