Chaos at Delta APC Stakeholders’ Meeting? Conflicting Reports Emerge as Party Denies Violence, Governor Oborevwori’s Aide Allegedly Attacked

Conflicting accounts have emerged following a stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta Central Senatorial District, with reports alleging that the gathering descended into chaos and left Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s protocol aide injured.

The meeting, held on Sunday at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Conference Centre in Effurun, Delta State, brought together APC leaders and stakeholders to discuss party affairs and strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections.

However, what was expected to be a routine political meeting has become the subject of controversy after several media outlets reported that violence erupted during the event.

According to reports by The Guardian and Daily Post, a disagreement among attendees reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, with rival groups allegedly throwing chairs and other objects at one another.

Eyewitnesses cited in the reports claimed the disturbance forced participants to flee the venue for safety, while several people allegedly sustained injuries. Property and goods at the conference centre were also reportedly vandalised during the incident.

The reports gained further attention after videos showing scenes of disorder outside the venue began circulating widely on social media.

Among those reportedly affected was Mr. Temple Mudi, popularly known as Tempo Mudi, the Senior Special Assistant on Protocol to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Several social media posts, as well as reports by Sahara Reporters, alleged that Mudi was stabbed or seriously assaulted during the incident and was seen attempting to escape from individuals pursuing him. However, as of Tuesday, there has been no official police confirmation of the alleged stabbing, nor has any hospital publicly released a statement confirming the extent of his reported injuries.

In response to the growing controversy, the Delta State chapter of the APC has strongly denied that any violence occurred during the stakeholders’ meeting.

In a statement issued by the party, the APC described media reports suggesting the meeting ended in chaos as “reckless, false, malicious and sensational.”

The party maintained that the event was peaceful, well-organised, and concluded successfully without any disruption.

According to APC officials, the meeting was attended by party leaders and stakeholders from across Delta Central and was broadcast live by Arise Television and TVC News.

The party further argued that videos being circulated online as evidence of violence were recorded elsewhere within the PTI premises and not inside the conference hall where the stakeholders’ meeting took place.

The APC consequently demanded an immediate retraction and public apology from The Guardian over its report and urged members of the public to disregard what it described as false narratives intended to create unnecessary tension within the party.

Party leaders also dismissed suggestions of internal factional disputes, insisting that the Delta APC remains united and focused on grassroots mobilisation, strengthening collaboration with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and supporting President Bola Tinubu’s administration ahead of the 2027 elections.

Despite the party’s denial, the conflicting reports have continued to generate widespread discussion online, with many Nigerians calling for an independent clarification of what transpired at the venue.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies have not released an official statement detailing whether any arrests were made, confirming casualty figures, or verifying claims that Governor Oborevwori’s protocol aide was assaulted.

With differing narratives continuing to circulate, the circumstances surrounding the alleged violence remain unclear, and further official updates are expected as authorities and party officials continue to address the incident.
