British authorities have uncovered approximately £7 million worth of cocaine hidden inside a legitimate shipment of SKIMS products linked to reality TV star Kim Kardashian in one of the UK’s most talked-about drug busts of the year.

According to investigators, the drugs were discovered last September after a truck carrying 28 pallets of SKIMS underwear arrived at the Port of Harwich from the Netherlands. Officers from the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) reportedly found 90 kilograms of cocaine concealed in a specially modified compartment built into the rear trailer doors.

Authorities estimated the street value of the seized cocaine at approximately $8.4 million (£7 million).

The truck driver, identified as 40-year-old Polish national Jakub Jan Konkel, has now been sentenced to 13 years and six months in prison after pleading guilty to importing Class A drugs into the United Kingdom.

Court proceedings revealed that Konkel allegedly agreed to transport the cocaine shipment for a payment of €4,500. Although he initially denied knowledge of the hidden drugs, he later admitted involvement in the smuggling operation.

Officials emphasized that the SKIMS products themselves were part of a completely legitimate commercial shipment and that neither the company nor Kim Kardashian had any connection to the drugs.

The case quickly went viral online due to the involvement of the globally recognised fashion brand. However, authorities stressed that organised crime groups frequently exploit trusted, high-volume commercial cargo to avoid suspicion during international transport.

A spokesperson for the National Crime Agency said the operation reflects increasingly sophisticated smuggling methods being used by international drug trafficking networks seeking to move narcotics through major ports and logistics routes.

In 2018, Colombian authorities intercepted football jerseys styled after the national soccer team that had reportedly been soaked in liquid cocaine before shipment to Europe. Similar tactics have also involved luxury fashion items, sportswear, and branded accessories used as camouflage for narcotics trafficking.

Authorities worldwide have also documented cases where cocaine was chemically infused into fabrics, towels, and garments before being extracted later by criminal groups after arrival.

Law enforcement agencies say traffickers deliberately target globally recognised brands because the large volume of genuine commercial shipments provides cover for illegal activity.

Despite the headlines linking the case to Kim Kardashian’s fashion empire, investigators reiterated that SKIMS and its owners were victims of exploitation by smugglers rather than participants in the operation.

The successful seizure forms part of the UK’s wider crackdown on Class A drug smuggling through ports and commercial freight channels.
