Sunday Owoeye, Osun State Head of Service, on Thursday, appealed to members of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union, COEASU, to exercise patience over the issue of their contributory pension and other related matters.
While reacting to reports of the press conference held by the union on Wednesday, Owoeye stressed that workers need to take cognizance of Rauf Aregbesola’s disposition to their welfare since the inception of his administration.
Owoeye, who said the Aregbesola’s administration has been able to manage the state’s affairs in spite of the global financial crisis, stressed that the government is working assiduously to address all the issues raised by the union.
“Every Nigerian is aware of the economic and fiscal mess which all states of the federation are contending with as a result of the ineptitude of the Federal Government in prudent management of our country’s commonwealth. The State of Osun is no exception. It takes a sense of saving for a rainy day and high dosage of financial engineering on the part of the State Government of Osun to cope and attend to critical needs of the citizenry up to date with a strategic scale of preference. Suffice it to state that it is settled in economics that human wants are unlimited but resources are scarce,” Owoeye said.
While reiterating the state government’s unflinching commitment to the welfare of workers, Owoeye stressed that they should be hopeful of a better tomorrow.
“The Unions should exercise patience because at the bottom of patience, one finds heaven. The commitment of the State Government to its workers’ welfare remains unflagging in spite of the current frustration it is facing from the Federal Government’s inability to fulfill its federal allocation obligations to the state.
“The Unions should not be in despair because in no distant time, there is hope for a better financial tomorrow bearing in mind that the man who walks in the company of hope is not a lonely man. Taking panicky actions at a time like this would only exacerbate, rather than ameliorate, the situation of things,” he added.Follow Us on Social Media
