Zimbabwe’s Vice President Blocked From Succession

Joyce Mujuru, Zimbabwe’s Vice-President has been barred by the ruling Zanu-PF party from retaining a party post, damaging her chances of one day succeeding president Robert Mugabe.

She had failed to win nomination after being linked to a plot to oust President Robert Mugabe.

Mujuru’s fall from grace damages her chances of one day succeeding the 90-year-old President. Zanu-PF is due to hold its elective congress next month.

Mujuru was a close comrade of Mugabe, but the two have have since fallen-out. Similarly, First Lady Grace Mugabe, who has recently joined politics, has also led a sustained campaign against Mujuru, accusing her of being “demonic.”
