There are indications that the Nigeria Professional Football league, NPFL, 2014/15 Season may kick off in March, 2015.
This, the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, said was to allow the majority of clubs in the league to have access to cash from their state governments.
Top officials said, now that the NFF congress has endorsed the new governing structure of the League Management Company, LMC, the league is now on a better footing and what is now left is to decide on a kick-off date for the new season.
“We could all say we want to start the league next week, but when the majority of the clubs are owned by state governments, it is only reasonable we allow them access their funding from their states before they start the season.
“As a result, the new season will begin either in February or March when these clubs would have received some cash from their various governments,” an NFF official who pleaded anonymity said.Follow Us on Social Media
