As Bandits Make Away with Huge Haul of Cash

Seven Killed in Multiple Bank Robberies in Uromi, Edo State

Five civilians and two policemen on Thursday lost their lives in a sadly well-coordinated and masterfully executed multiple bank robberies in Uromi, Esan North East local government of Edo State. According to information released by the public relations officer of the state Police Command, Bello Kontongs, a superintendent of police, SP, the affected banks are Zenith Bank, United Bank for Afrca, UBA, First Bank, and Union Bank.

Eyewitnesses hinted that the dare-devil armed robbers who were unmasked, stormed the town in several vehicles armed to the teeth, and blew the banks open with dynamites causing pandemonium as residents scampered for cover, while some were unfortunately mowed down by stray bullets. The gunmen reportedly made away with huge haul of cash which was loaded in their get-away vehicle, a silver colour Toyota Lexus 350 sport utility vehicle, SUV. They were said to have operated unhindered for over one hour.

A source, who was miffed at what he called “the military precision” with which the robbers operated simultaneously in the four banks, wondered why the security agencies were not able to engage them”.
