Following the order by Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Nigeria Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT,

Bukola Saraki
Bukola Saraki

to Bukola Saraki, the senate president to appear before the tribunal on Tuesday over alleged false declaration of assets to the Code of Conduct Bureau, the senate president has finally agreed to do so. This was disclosed in a statement issued Monday afternoon. Saraki said that, as a law-abiding citizen, he is ready to submit himself to due process of the law on any issue concerning him. He explained that his initial absence not to appear before the tribunal was based on legal advice he received from his counsel, who said it was not necessary for him to appear before the tribunal as the matter was being challenged before the federal High Court in Abuja. “Following the adjournment for the determination of the motion on notice and the substantive suit before the Federal High Court to 30th of September and the appeal pending before the Court of Appeal adjourned to the 29th of September 2015, the Senate President has decided, as a law abiding citizen, to appear before the Tribunal in the interim,” the statement read, in part. According to Saraki, his decision to attend the Tribunal sitting was taken to demonstrate respect for the rule of law in spite of his personal reservation on the process of his trial and its intended purpose. He expressed his faith in the judicial process and believes that the course of justice would be served at the end of the matter.
