The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has described the forthcoming August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election as a defining moment for the future of the state, urging party leaders and supporters to unite behind the APC’s candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, to secure victory at the polls.

Basiru made the call in a statement personally signed and made available to journalists on Tuesday in Osogbo, following a high-level strategic meeting held at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja as part of preparations for the governorship election.

According to the APC National Secretary, the election presents an opportunity for the party to return to power in Osun State and implement policies aimed at driving sustainable development, inclusive governance, and economic prosperity.

He called on party leaders across the state to intensify grassroots mobilisation, strengthen voter engagement, and ensure every eligible supporter is encouraged to participate in the electoral process.

“The forthcoming governorship election is critical to the future of Osun State. It is imperative that all party leaders, members and supporters remain united, focused and committed to achieving victory for our candidate, Bola Oyebamiji,” Basiru said.

He also urged APC faithful to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the campaign and election period, stressing the importance of respecting democratic principles and the rule of law.

Basiru encouraged eligible voters across the state to come out en masse on election day and exercise their constitutional right to vote in a peaceful and orderly manner.

The statement noted that party stakeholders who attended the strategic meeting reaffirmed their unwavering loyalty to the APC and expressed confidence in the party’s growing acceptance among residents of Osun State.

According to the communiqué, the meeting reviewed the party’s level of preparedness for the election and deliberated extensively on strategies aimed at strengthening the APC’s campaign structure across all 30 local government areas, wards, and polling units in the state.

The discussions focused on enhancing grassroots mobilisation, improving voter outreach, consolidating party unity, and ensuring effective coordination of campaign activities ahead of the August 15 governorship poll.

Party leaders also reiterated their commitment to conducting an issue-based campaign that would focus on policies, development, and the welfare of the people rather than political distractions.

The APC leadership expressed confidence that the party possesses the experience, organisational capacity, and grassroots support required to secure victory in the election.

Stakeholders further pledged to work collectively toward delivering a successful outcome for the party and its governorship candidate, maintaining that the election offers Osun residents the opportunity to embrace what they described as a new era of purposeful leadership and sustainable development.

The governorship election is expected to be keenly contested, with political parties intensifying campaigns across the state in the final days before voters head to the polls.

Political observers believe the outcome of the election will significantly influence the political landscape of Osun State and could have broader implications for party politics in the South-West ahead of future national elections.
