Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will on Friday
The test run of the train ride starts from theIju area of Lagos to Abeokuta in Ogun State. The Vice President willride along with the Transportation Minister, Chibuike Amaechi to mark theinauguration of the new standard gauge rail section.
Although construction work is currentlyongoing, the train service is expected to provide relief from the current heavyburden and pressure on the Iju area through Ijoko in Ogun State. Workers at theconstruction sites told the magazine that work is being hampered by thepresence of underground water pipes and demolition of buildings.
Despite these challenges, the project, when completed, will facilitate the movement of goods between Abeokuta in Ogun State and Lagos. Traders in Lagos, for example, can transport their products to Abeokuta easily without having to worry about the cost of shipment and delivery. In doing so, it would also reduce the burden on highways and promote economic growth.
