Arthur Nwankwo, chancellor of the Eastern Mandate Union, EMU, a pressure group that has campaigned for restructuring in Nigeria, has washed his hands off a supposed negotiation with the federal government. Nwankwo, in a release, said he had nothing to do with a breakaway faction of the Independent Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, which claims to have nominated him as one of those who will negotiate on its behalf with the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He wrote: ‘I have nothing whatsoever to do with this group or any other group for that matter.’ he said his position on the restructuring of the country remains unchanged, adding that the Igbo nation has not put forward any delegation to represent it at any relevant national forum for this purpose.
While insisting that the association of his name with the group was ‘absolutely scandalous, ridiculous and totally unacceptable’, Nwankwo concluded: ‘I dissociate myself completely from RE-IPOB and demand an immediate retraction of my name from their press release to avoid unpleasant consequences.’
