The management of the University of Benin, UNIBEN, Benin City, Edo State, has declared Tuesday lecture-free ostensibly to douse tension in the university community as result of the bizarre elimination of a final year student in the department of Public Administration whose real name has been confirmed to be Desmond Rukevwe Obukhowo.
Spokesperson of the university, Benedicta Ehanire, said the lecture-free day followed what she called “the traumatic murder incident” which occurred at the University’s campus on Monday night.
Reiterating its appeal to members of the University community to remain calm as efforts were being intensified to ensure the safety of staff and students while security agencies were investigating the sad incident, the institution’s management again prayed God to comfort late Obukhowo’s family and colleagues, and to grant his soul peaceful rest.
