The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND has expressed hope that the government of elected President Muhammadu Buhari would bring peace and unity to Nigeria.
In a congratulatory message to Buhari for emerging winner of the March 28 presidential election, MEND said Nigerians made the best choice by choosing the retired General to lead the country at this challenging time of its existence.
“The Nigerian people have spoken and elected General Muhammadu Buhari to be the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. In doing so, we have not only made the right choice of a new leadership, we have also reaffirmed the strength of our democracy,” Jomo Gbomo, Spokesman to the ex-militants stated on Wednesday.
Gbomo added, “President-elect General Muhammadu Buhari’s message of hope, freedom and opportunity resonates with our group, as it does with the Nigerian people. In these difficult times, with the economic crisis and security challenges, we are confident that under your leadership, Nigeria will once again regain its peace and unity.”
The group also extended a hand of commendation to Goodluck Jonathan, incumbent President and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for his demonstration of sportsmanship by conceding defeat to Buhari.
