Enugu State has taken a bold leap in modernizing its transportation sector as Governor Peter Mbah on Wednesday commissioned five ultra-modern transport terminals — Holy Ghost Terminals 1 and 2, Nsukka, Abakpa Nike, and Gariki — along with a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Mass Transit Scheme, an advanced Transport Management System, and over 80 new bus shelters.

The Holy Ghost area, once notorious for traffic chaos and disorder, has been transformed into a world-class transit hub. Governor Mbah said the initiative is not just about easing traffic but about building a seamless, safe, and efficient transportation ecosystem that integrates road, rail, air, and waterways.

“This is more than a ribbon-cutting exercise. It is a multimodal highway to the future that connects businesses and communities, and positions Enugu as a model for modern governance and sustainable growth,” Mbah stated.

The governor highlighted that the project is already creating opportunities, with over 20,000 jobs across BRT operations, hybrid taxis, airport services, ride-hailing, and support sectors. The introduction of e-ticketing and comprehensive insurance coverage will also ensure transparency, safety, and dignity for commuters.

He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support, particularly the concessioning of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, which is set to boost Enugu’s status as an aviation and economic hub.

The commissioning attracted massive support from residents, who turned out in large numbers to witness what many described as a historic milestone in Enugu’s journey toward modernization.

Governor Mbah reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to connecting vision with action and delivering on promises that impact the daily lives of over 7 million residents of the state.

“Enugu is moving forward — and we are moving together,” he declared.
