The 10 people who allegedly tortured and sodomised three women purportedly for stealing pepper at Oba Morufu International Market, Ejigbo, Lagos in February 2013 will now be arraigned before an Ikeja High Court on March 3, 2015.
The arraignment of the suspects before justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye on Monday was adjourned to the new date because nine of the suspects were absent in court.
The suspects were taken to court on a 19-count-charge of sexual assault, malicious administration of poison, conspiracy, attempted murder, obtaining money by false pretenses and deprivation of liberty.
When the case was called in court on Monday, Idowu Alakija, Director of Public Prosecutions, told the court that all the suspects had been admitted to bail, suggesting that they may not have been aware that the matter would be coming up on Monday.
She therefore prayed the court to adjourn the matter with a promise to produce the suspects in court on the new date.
The 10 suspects were apprehended after a video showing how they stripped the victims and rubbed pepper on their private parts went viral on social media.
