A hit-and-run driver of a car knocked and killed a man at Kara market along Lagos-Ibadan expressway this Friday.
According to an eyewitness, in a bid to beat the heavy traffic caused by livestock sellers along the road, the unidentified driver ran into the man who was trying to gather his livestock together, and then zoomed off with his car stained with his blood.
A man who identified himself as Friday, the owner of a vulcanizing shop, where the unidentified man lay lifeless said: “ I came and met him there. I don’t know how it happened. I just heard that he was knocked.”
He further appealed to the appropriate authorities to come and evacuate the corpse.
When our reporter visited the scene, another eyewitness, who refused to give his name directed directed our reporter to some other livestock dealers in the market, who were said to be relatives of the dead man but they refuted the claims.
“ Me I don’t know him, he just dey sell cattle for here too. And motor hit him. He is not my family.” He said.
At the scene of the accident were three men who wore uniforms of the Nigeria Police and the Nigerian Army. At first they denied seeing the corpse but later said in pidgin English: “ no be my business, he no concern me. I don see am (the corpse) but we came to buy ram.” As at the time of filing this report the corpse had not been evacuated from the scene of the accident.
