Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu has revealed shocking details about the recent kidnapping of passengers traveling with Big Joe Motors along the Okene/Okpella Expressway, which connects Edo and Kogi States.

According to Gwamnishu, six victims were abducted during the attack and later released after paying a combined ransom of ₦65 million to their captors — a group he claims has ties to “powerful individuals.”

“A total of ₦65 million was paid by six victims who were kidnapped while traveling with Big Joe Motors along the Okene/Okpella Expressway. These kidnappers are connected to powerful individuals,” he said.

In a series of updates shared on social media, Gwamnishu also addressed criticisms from those who accused him of entering the forest “for clout” rather than assisting with the search for the victims.

Responding, he stated:

“If we’re not here, our uniform men won’t move an inch. My team’s tech system gives them the push they need as well.”

The activist’s statement sheds light on the growing insecurity along interstate routes in Southern Nigeria, especially in the Okene–Okpella corridor, which has become notorious for repeated kidnapping incidents targeting travelers and commercial vehicles.

Gwamnishu’s claims have fueled public outrage and renewed calls for a joint security operation between Edo and Kogi State authorities to flush out criminal networks operating in the region.
