Five unknown gunmen, on Sunday, kidnapped Steven Mayaki, the Kogi State Commissioner for Lands.
An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity told journalists in Lokoja that the five gunmen trailed and kidnapped the Commissioner at his farm in Osara village, Adavi Local Government Area of the state on Sunday morning.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen stormed Mayaki’s farm in a Prado Jeep, abducted him and drove him away to an unknown destination.
Adebayo Collins, the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, has also confirmed the kidnap adding that the Command was doing everything possible to rescue the Commissioner unhurt.
“It is true the Commissioner was kidnapped but the Command is on top of the matter,” he said.
The Police PRO said Mayaki was kidnapped with six other people on the site. “The kidnappers who wore masks, suddenly surfaced while he was settling a land dispute with some persons.
“The seven victims were taken to an unknown location and interviewed by their captors, who later released four of the victims and kept three others, the commissioner inclusive,” he said
The police is doing everything possible to ensure the safe release of the three remaining victims, while a thorough investigation is ongoing, Mayaki said.
It will be recalled that Samuel Obayomi, the Kogi State High Court Judge, who was kidnapped last Monday is yet to be released. The judge’s orderly, Usman Musa, was shot dead in the encounter and the kidnappers later demanded N150m ransom before they could release the judge.
