US to send troops to fight Ebola in West Africa

Barack Obama, President of the United States of America, is to announce plans on Tuesday to send 3,000 troops to Liberia to help in the fight against the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD.

It is understood that the US military will oversee the building of new treatment centres and help train medical staff.

There has been wide criticisms of the slow international response to the epidemic.

United Nations officials in Geneva will discuss the international response to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa at a meeting later this week.
