The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has commended the Kwara State Government for what it describes as exceptional and transformative achievements in digital and blended learning, placing the state among Nigeria’s leading models for education technology advancement.

In a formal letter addressed to Governor Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (CON) through the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, UNICEF praised the administration for surpassing its digital learning goals under the Nigeria Learning Passport (NLP)—a flagship e-learning innovation launched in 2024.

According to the agency, Kwara has recorded over 55,900 learners on the NLP platform—representing more than 280% of the original 20,000-learner target set for the end of 2025. UNICEF described this achievement as a direct result of the governor’s commitment to education technology, innovation, and human capital development.

UNICEF noted that Governor AbdulRazaq’s policies have repositioned Kwara as a national leader in digital learning, crediting his administration with providing the tools, technical support, and functional learning environment necessary to strengthen digital transformation across public schools.

The Chief of Field Office, UNICEF Kaduna, Dr. Gerida Birukila, hailed the milestone as “remarkable”, reaffirming UNICEF’s readiness to deepen its partnership with the state as Kwara continues to expand digital learning access for children across all communities.

The Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development expressed appreciation for the recognition, adding that UNICEF’s commendation further validates the effectiveness of Governor AbdulRazaq’s ongoing education reforms and digital learning agenda.

Kwara State, the ministry said, remains committed to scaling innovative learning systems to ensure no child is left behind in the evolving digital future.
