President Bola Tinubu has suspended Godwin Emefiele , governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN. The suspension takes immediate effect. This was made known in a statement from the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, George Akume.
Willie Bassey, director of information in the office of the SGF signed the statement.
Though the action against Emefiele was not unexpected considering his rumoured attempt to participate in the presidential primaries of the All Progressives Congress, APC in 2022 , and the Naira re-design policy believed to have been politically motivated, it however came at a time even Emefiele appeared to have assumed that President Tinubu may have decided to let sleeping dogs lie. Reason is that he was on the team of the federal government that has been negotiating with the organised labour on the scrapped fuel subsidy.
