President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the renewal of Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd) as Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for another five-year tenure, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and substance abuse across Nigeria.

The announcement, made on Thursday, confirms that Marwa will continue leading the agency’s aggressive anti-narcotics campaign, which has recorded significant successes since he assumed office in January 2021.

Under Marwa’s leadership, the NDLEA has carried out hundreds of high-profile raids, intercepted large quantities of illicit drugs, dismantled trafficking networks, and intensified nationwide drug abuse prevention programmes.

His reappointment is widely viewed as a strategic move to strengthen the country’s drug control framework amid rising trafficking activities across West Africa.

Government officials say the renewed mandate will allow Marwa to consolidate ongoing reforms, enhance inter-agency intelligence sharing, and expand rehabilitation programs for victims of drug addiction.

The decision has sparked strong public reactions, with many Nigerians applauding the continuity, crediting Marwa for restoring confidence in the agency and elevating Nigeria’s global standing in anti-drug enforcement.

Brigadier-General Marwa’s second five-year term begins immediately.
