Nigerian actor Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has been released from prison after spending more than three years in custody, according to a report published by Vanguard on November 14, 2025.
The release follows a Court of Appeal ruling that overturned the earlier judgment which had convicted him on multiple counts related to sexual assault.
Baba Ijesha, who was originally sentenced in 2022 to 16 years imprisonment by a Lagos High Court, regained his freedom after appellate judges reviewed the case and delivered a judgement in his favor. The ruling has reportedly nullified key parts of the earlier conviction.
The news of his release was widely confirmed by several reputable media outlets, including TheCable, TVC News, and Lagos Television, all of which reported that the actor walked out of custody shortly after the appeal verdict was delivered.
According to these reports, the court did not find sufficient grounds to uphold the charges related to having sexual contact with a minor.
The actor’s longtime supporter, Yomi Fabiyi, also shared confirmation of his release, describing it as “justice served” while calling for restraint and respect for the court’s decision.
Baba Ijesha’s case had stirred massive national controversy since 2021, dividing public opinion and sparking debates on justice, child safety, and legal process in Nigeria. His release is now generating fresh reactions online, with many describing the outcome as a turning point in one of Nigeria’s most high-profile celebrity trials.
For now, neither Baba Ijesha nor his legal team has issued an official statement, but the confirmation from Vanguard and other credible outlets indicates that the actor is legally free following the appellate judgement.
This story continues to develop as Nigerians respond to the latest court decision involving one of Nollywood’s most controversial cases.
