OSOGBO — Amid rising political tension in Osun State, a prominent chieftain of the All-Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene and prevent a potential breakdown of law and order following a recent court ruling on the state’s local government election.

Speaking with journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, Oyintiloye expressed deep concern over the unrest triggered by the Court of Appeal ruling in Akure, delivered on Friday, which struck out the APC’s application to relist its appeal against a 2022 Federal High Court judgment that had previously nullified the state’s LG elections.

According to the former lawmaker and ex-member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, the ruling is now being dangerously misinterpreted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the state government. He warned that this misrepresentation could lead to a statewide crisis if PDP supporters attempt to forcibly take over local government secretariats on Monday.

“The PDP is claiming the court ruling gives them full control of the councils, but this is misleading,” Oyintiloye said. “The judgment delivered on February 10, which reinstated our elected chairmen and councillors, still stands.”

Oyintiloye warned that any move to unseat the APC officials currently occupying the 30 LG secretariats could spark violent confrontations. “Our elected officials will not allow unlawful takeovers. We already saw bloodshed on February 17 over a similar issue, and we must not let history repeat itself.”

He therefore urged President Tinubu to take immediate action by deploying security forces across the state to forestall any possible violence and to protect lives and property.

“We are calling on Mr. President to act fast and prevent chaos. The people of Osun cannot afford another round of bloodshed,” Oyintiloye emphasized.

He further advised the state government to await the final decision of the Supreme Court, where it has already filed an appeal concerning its inability to access local government allocations.

“This matter is still before the highest court. It is premature and reckless for anyone to forcefully assume control based on a misinterpreted appellate ruling,” he concluded.

The situation in Osun remains tense, with political observers closely watching Monday’s developments amid fears of confrontation between PDP supporters and APC council officials.
