Armed soldiers have been deployed in strategic locations in Port Harcourt following an escalation of riots in parts of the city.
The soldiers were seen at Oil Mill, Akpajo, Park, Ikoku Junction and even at Onne Ports Complex where youths of the community barricaded the gates.
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike had to place the areas where youths had rioted under a 24-hour curfew to check the violence.
On Tuesday, hoodlums had burned down the police station at Oyigbo and a hospital that rejected an injured rioter that was rushed there. They also burned down the High Court at Afam and cordoned off the Port Harcourt/Aba expressway.
On Wednesday, rioters took over the Education to Ikoku section of the Ikwerre Road and confronted security agents that were sent to restore normalcy. The security agents fired live bullets to drive away the hoodlums. A few people were felled in the shooting but it could not be confirmed their condition.
