Seven months after a panel was constituted to probe Babachir David Lawal, secretary to the Government of the Federation and Ayo Oke, director general of the National Intelligence Agency, NIA over allegations bordering on breach of trust and possession of huge sums of money respectively, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the recommendation of the panel that they be relieved of their positions. The panel headed by Yemi Osinbajo,Vice President, included Abubakar Malami, attorney general and minister of justice and Babagana Munguno, national security adviser. It submitted its report to President Buhari in late August, four months after it was set up.
A statement today by Femi Adeshina, special adviser to the president on media and publicity, said President Buhari, having studied the report of the panel, has upheld the decision.
“The President accepted the recommendation of the panel to terminate the appointment of Mr Lawal, and has appointed Mr Boss Mustapha as the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation. The appointment takes immediate effect. President Buhari also approved the recommendation to terminate the appointment of Ambassador Oke, and has further approved the setting up of a three-member panel to, among other things, look into the operational, technical and administrative structure of the Agency and make appropriate recommendations,” Adesina said.Follow Us on Social Media
