The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced the resumption of nationwide enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy, effective January 2, 2026, citing growing security concerns and the need to curb criminal activities linked to unauthorised tinted vehicles.

A statement signed by Benjamin Hundeyin, chief superintendent of police, and (CSP)Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, Sunday December 15, 2025, clarified that there was no court order restraining it from enforcing existing laws on the use of tinted glass on vehicles. However, enforcement was earlier suspended in the interest of transparency and public convenience, allowing motorists adequate time to regularise their documentation and complete the permit application process without undue pressure.

According to the Police, recent security assessments have revealed a disturbing rise in crimes committed using vehicles fitted with unauthorised tinted glass, which criminals reportedly use to conceal their identities while perpetrating offences such as armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes. “In view of these developments, the Nigeria Police Force has found it necessary and urgent to resume full enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit as a proactive step to safeguard lives and property,” the statement noted. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, assured Nigerians that the renewed enforcement would be carried out professionally, lawfully and with full respect for citizens’ rights.
