The Nigeria Police Force has successfully arrested and repatriated a 61-year-old Turkish fugitive, Acar Huseyin, who fled his country to avoid serving a lengthy prison sentence for fraud. The operation was coordinated through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB), Abuja, in collaboration with international partners.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, chief superintendent of police, CSP, confirmed the development in a statement issued from the Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.
Huseyin was convicted earlier this year by the Istanbul Anadolu High Criminal Court and handed a jail term of 14 years, 8 months, and 10 days. However, shortly after the judgement, he escaped Turkey, travelling through parts of the Middle East before illegally entering Nigeria in a bid to evade justice. In July 2025, INTERPOL NCB Ankara issued a Red Notice requesting global law enforcement agencies to locate and apprehend the fugitive.
Acting on the alert, INTERPOL NCB Abuja launched a discreet, intelligence-led operation that tracked Huseyin to the Federal Capital Territory, where he was eventually arrested.
After completing all required documentation and formalities, the Nigeria Police Force repatriated Huseyin to Istanbul, where he will now commence his prison sentence.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the INTERPOL unit for its professionalism and swift response. He reiterated that Nigeria will never serve as a safe haven for criminals or escaped convicts, stressing the commitment of the NPF to honouring international obligations and strengthening global cooperation in tackling transnational crime.
