Unknown gunmen in Ekiti, Ijigbo area of the state capital, killed Omolafe Aderiye, a former Ekiti State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, last night.
A source, who said his assassins wore Mobile Police uniform with bulletproof vest and came in a white car immediately opened fire on sighting him, shot and killed him at close range in his office while eating with friends.
Idowu Adelusi, The Chief Press Secretary to Fayose, confirmed the incidence last night.
“It is true he was killed today around 8:30p.m while he was with his friends. He was sprayed from his chest down with a pump action rifle. He took effective participation in the coordination of security arrangement during our last campaign. His death is very unfortunate.” He said
Another source said the remains of Aderiye, who was a loyal supporter of Ayo Fayose, the Governor-elect of Ekiti state, and took active part in his campaign coordination, had been deposited in the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital.
As at press time, the Ekiti State Police command is yet to confirm the news.
