Court of Appeal, sitting in Benin, capital of Edo State today upheld the decision of the Edo State Governorship Election Tribunal affirming the election of the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP had challenged the decision of the lower court which confirmed the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to return Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress, APC as the winner of September 2016 election in the State. Ize-Iyamu had prayed the appellate court to upturn the ruling of the State’s Election Petition Tribunal.

Obaseki of the ruling APC won in 11 Local Council areas of the State, while Pastor Ize-Iyamu won in five Council areas.
