Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, for Akoko-Edo Federal Constituency in Edo State, Oladele Bankole-Balogun is agitated over alleged irregularities in the ongoing voting exercise in his constituency. Bankole-Balogun who voted at around 9.30 am, complained that 23 result sheets for the presidential election in Akoko-Edo out of 146 were nowhere to be found. He said he also got report in Ward 9, Epedo that the materials for Ikpeshi are in Epedo and that of Epedo are nowhere to be found. He said he also got information of stuffing of ballot boxes in certain places, specifically in the house and hotel of an APC chieftain (name withheld).
Expressing dissatisfaction with the process, Bankole-Balogun claimed he had complained to the electoral officer of INEC and the Police Area Commander as well as incedented with the DPO, all these things going on and hoped that at the end of the day, the will of the people would be allowed to prevail. He also complained of some communities where materials had not gotten to as at 10 o’clock especially ward 6, units 12, 13 and 14 and 16.
The displeased candidate is challenging the incumbent, Peter Akpatasn whom he lost to in 2015. But in his reaction, Akpatason dismissed Bankole-Balogun’s allegations, stating that there was nothing like that. He boasted that his Uneme-N’ekhua community is the heatquarters of APC in the Akoko-Edo local government area.
