Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has officially defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party, marking a dramatic shift in the state’s political landscape ahead of future electoral contests.

Adeleke, who announced his decision on Tuesday, said his move to Accord was motivated by the party’s strong alignment with his administration’s core agenda of social welfare, inclusive development, and grassroots empowerment.

According to the governor, the Accord Party offers a more compatible ideological space for the policies he has championed since assuming office in 2022, particularly those focused on improving living conditions, expanding social services, and strengthening community-based governance.

He emphasized that his decision was driven by governance priorities rather than political conflict, adding that the welfare and prosperity of Osun residents remain the central motivation behind his realignment.

“Accord stands firmly for the welfare of our people, and that is the foundation of my administration. My decision to join a platform that reflects this commitment is in the best interest of Osun State,” Adeleke said.

His defection has triggered widespread reactions across the state’s political circles, with analysts projecting that the move could redefine upcoming political calculations in Osun ahead of both local and national elections.

Party loyalists and supporters have begun mobilizing at the grassroots level to welcome the governor into his new political home, describing the development as a “strategic realignment” that will strengthen governance and accelerate people-centered reforms.

With Adeleke now the most prominent figure in Accord, stakeholders say the party is set for heightened visibility and influence in Osun’s political sphere.
