Troops of the 8 Division, Nigerian Army / Sector 2 Joint Task Force (Northwest) Operation Hadarin Daji, have recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against banditry and terrorism in Sokoto State, neutralizing 11 bandits and recovering a significant cache of weapons in a decisive ambush operation.
The swift and highly coordinated operation was executed near Kurawa Village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area, following credible intelligence that bandit elements were mobilizing for a planned attack on Tara Village, a known hotspot and corridor for cross-movement by terrorist and bandit groups.
According to military sources, the strike team acted on precise intelligence and launched a well-structured ambush that resulted in an intense firefight. The engagement ended with 11 bandits neutralised, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.
Troops recovered 8 AK-47 rifles, 5 additional magazines, and 26 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, dealing a significant blow to the firepower and mobility of the criminal network operating in the area.
The Nigerian Army described the operation as a proactive move that not only foiled a potential deadly attack but also further degraded the operational capacity of bandits and terrorist elements across the Sabon Birni corridor, a location that has witnessed heightened criminal activity in recent months.
Military authorities hailed the professionalism and bravery of the troops, reaffirming their commitment to sustaining aggressive counter-banditry operations to safeguard the lives and property of residents in Sokoto State and the Northwest region.
The success of this mission underscored the 8 Division’s ongoing resolve to dismantle criminal networks and restore lasting peace and security to affected communities.
