Ten people including three French sports personalities were killed on Monday, in a helicopter crash in Argentina, the French Presidential office confirmed.
Eight French nationals and two Argentine pilots died when two helicopters collided mid air in La Rioja province in the country’s northwest.
Yachtswoman, Florence Arthaud; Olympic swimmer, Camille Muffat and Olympic boxer Alexis Vastine all died in the crash.
The helicopters were involved in the filming of TV survival show, Dropped. The show organisers fly celebrities into rough terrain by helicopter and films their attempts to find food and shelter.
“The sudden death of our fellow French nationals is a cause of immense sadness,” French President Francois Hollande said in a statement.
The helicopters crashed at about 5pm near the town of Villa Castelli, about 700 miles north of the capital, Buenos Aires.
The cause of the crash is as yet unclear and investigations are under way.
