Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, reportedly confronted a team of Nigerian Navy officers led by Lieutenant A.M. Yerima on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, during a heated altercation over a 30-hectare land in Abuja’s Gaduwa District.
The disputed land, previously allocated to retired Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo, was among several plots revoked by the FCT Administration and allegedly reallocated to political associates.
According to witnesses, Wike arrived at the site with his aides and FCTA officials, insisting on immediate access to the property. However, the naval personnel stationed at the location reportedly refused entry without higher military authorization, citing security protocols.
Sources say the minister became furious, insulted the officers, and called the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, to demand clearance. Despite his intervention, the troops maintained their stance, emphasizing that they were acting under proper orders.
The incident has since triggered widespread reactions from military veterans and public figures, including former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (Rtd.), who condemned Wike’s conduct, describing it as “a reckless abuse of power and a potential threat to national security.”
Buratai and other ex-service chiefs have called on the minister to issue a public apology to the Nigerian Armed Forces, stressing that such confrontations could undermine military discipline and civil-military relations.
As of press time, neither the FCTA nor the Nigerian Navy had released an official statement on the matter.
