The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointment of the Chairman and Commissioners of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM), following President Bola Tinubu’s request for approval of the new leadership team.
Those confirmed include Agbaje Opeyemi Olukayode, representing the South-West, who will serve as Chairman of PENCOM. Also confirmed was Hafiz Muhammad Kawu Ibrahim, representing the North-West, as Commissioner for Technical Matters.
Other confirmed commissioners are Samuel Chigizie Uwandu (South-East), Charles Efe Sylvester Emukowhate (South-South), and Bello Abubakar Malabu (North-East), who will serve as Commissioners for Inspectorate, Finance, and Administration, respectively.
With these confirmations, the Senate has completed the statutory process required to constitute the leadership of the National Pension Commission — the key agency responsible for regulating and supervising pension matters in Nigeria.
Observers say the new appointments reflect President Tinubu’s commitment to regional balance and efficiency in managing Nigeria’s pension system.
