The Rivers State Police Command has removed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Abuloma Division and ordered a full-scale investigation after a viral video showed suspected Vikings confraternity members celebrating the renovation of a police outpost reportedly funded by the group.
The development was announced on Friday, October 16, 2026, following the circulation of footage showing suspected members of the Vikings confraternity, also associated with De Norsemen Kclub International (DNKI), at the Abuloma Police Outpost around Okuru Junction in the Trans Amadi area of Port Harcourt.
In the video, the men, dressed in white shirts and black trousers, with some wearing red fez caps and black berets, were seen chanting slogans, posing for photographs alongside police officers and celebrating the completion of renovation work they reportedly financed.
The incident sparked public concern over the circumstances surrounding the renovation and the presence of suspected cult group members at a police facility.
Reacting to the controversy, the Rivers State Police Command condemned the incident, warning that any association capable of undermining the integrity and professionalism of the Nigeria Police Force would not be tolerated.
“The Command strongly condemns any action or association capable of compromising the integrity, discipline and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force or conferring legitimacy, recognition or acceptance on suspected cult groups or other unlawful organisations,” the police spokesperson, ASP Blessing Agabe, said in a statement.
The command stressed that police facilities are public institutions established to protect citizens, maintain law and order, and enforce the law. It said such facilities must not be used as platforms for criminal groups to seek public recognition, legitimacy or influence.
Under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, the command reiterated its commitment to maintaining discipline and protecting public confidence in the police.
As part of the immediate response, the DPO in charge of Abuloma Division and the officer overseeing the affected outpost have been queried and relieved of their duties pending the outcome of the investigation.
The investigation is expected to establish the identities of those who financed or facilitated the renovation, determine which police officers authorised or approved the project, and ascertain whether established procedures were followed.
Investigators will also examine whether any officers breached professional standards and determine the extent of police involvement in the arrangement.
The viral footage has generated widespread reactions, with Nigerians raising questions about the relationship between security agencies and suspected cult groups in Rivers State.
The timing of the incident has also attracted attention because October 15 is associated with an anniversary observed by the Vikings confraternity.
However, the police have yet to establish publicly whether any criminal offence was committed in connection with the renovation or whether any officers acted improperly.
The command said the investigation would determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, while the affected officers remain relieved of their duties pending further findings.
