President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Olusegun Awolowo, grandson of the late nationalist and statesman, Chief Obafemi Awolowo. Segun Awolowo, a respected lawyer and public servant, died at the age of 62.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described Segun Awolowo’s death as “unfortunate and a tragic loss not only to the Awolowo family, but also to the entire country.”

The President praised the late Awolowo for upholding the values and legacy of his illustrious grandfather, noting that he embodied the Awolowo heritage in “appearance, character and demeanour.”

He highlighted that Segun Awolowo, like Chief Obafemi Awolowo, was a lawyer devoted to truth, justice, and service to the nation.

President Tinubu commended Segun’s notable contributions to national development, especially during his tenure as Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) from 2013 to 2021, where he became the longest-serving head of the agency.

“My sympathy and condolences to his wife and children, the Awolowo family, and his mum, our own Sisi Abah Folawiyo,” President Tinubu said.

“I also commiserate with the governments and people of Ogun State, the entire South-West, and all Nigerians over this painful loss. May his soul rest in peace.”

The Presidency’s message has sparked widespread reactions across the country, as Nigerians continue to pay tribute to a man celebrated for his integrity, public service, and devotion to national progress.
