The court’s decision followed the DPP’s conclusion that no substantial evidence directly tied the accused individuals to the artist’s death. As a result, they were discharged but not acquitted, meaning the charges could be refiled should new evidence emerge in the future.

However, Mohbad’s family has rejected the decision, calling it “premature” and expressing concern that it might undermine the ongoing Coroner’s Inquest, which is yet to deliver a final verdict. They announced their intention to appeal the ruling, insisting that justice must be served for their late son.

“The fight for justice is not over,” a family representative said. “This ruling has only delayed the truth. We believe there’s more to uncover.”

The court emphasized that the discharge is not equivalent to an acquittal, leaving the door open for further prosecution pending new findings. Still, the verdict has fueled widespread public distrust, with many Nigerians accusing the justice system of bowing to celebrity influence.

Across social media, hashtags like #JusticeForMohbad, #SayNoToInjustice, and #DPPUnderFire have trended as netizens call for renewed investigation and transparency. Protests were reported in parts of Lagos and Ogun states, with fans and civil rights groups demanding full accountability in Mohbad’s death.

The late singer, known for his raw lyrics and troubled past, died under mysterious circumstances in September 2023, sparking allegations of bullying, abuse, and industry manipulation.

As the Coroner’s Inquest continues and appeals are prepared, Mohbad’s case remains open, with Nigerians watching closely — determined not to let the flame of justice burn out.
