Nigerian music legend and reggae king Majekodunmi Fasheke, popularly called Majek Fashek, is dead.

It was learnt that he died around 5:45 pm on Monday in a hospital in New York.

Report says he has been ill, though the nature of the illness is yet unknown.

His longtime manager Umenka Uzoma Day who announced the death on his Instagram page on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 confirmed that the Legendary Icon has gone to be with the lord his maker.

“Today been having pressure calls, well it is true that the African No 1 Legendary ICON has gone to be with the LORD his Maker,” Day said.

“Let celebrate him, his achievements, and his family, whatever decisions made by his immediate family will be notified.”

The Nigerian Singer, song writer and guitarist was born on 6 February 1949 in Benin-City, Edo state Nigeria. Majek was born to an Ilesa, Osun state father. The family name is Ifa ko se eke meaning Ifa, the oracle, does not lie. He was best known in Nigeria for the 1988 album Prisoner of Conscience, which included the multiple award-winning single “Send Down the Rain”. The song dominated the airwaves for months. In fact, he is known as the RAIN MAKER.

Majek relocated to the United States many years ago, albeit in search of greener pasture. While there his ingenuity was appreciated as he work with popular artists like Michael Jackson, Jimmy Cliff and Beyonce.
