In 2016, Georgina Rodriguez was a 22-year-old sales assistant earning just £250 a week at a Gucci store in Madrid when a chance encounter changed her life forever — she met Cristiano Ronaldo.
Born in the quiet Spanish village of Jaca to an Argentinian father, Jorge, and a Spanish mother, Ana, Georgina’s childhood was modest. She once dreamed of becoming a ballet dancer, but her family couldn’t afford the tuition. Instead, she pursued work in fashion retail, starting as a waitress in Huesca before moving to San Sebastian for her first retail role with Massimo Dutti.

At 17, driven by ambition, she moved to England to work as an au pair in Bristol, learning English before returning to Spain to work in high-end fashion in Madrid. It was at Gucci where fate intervened — Ronaldo walked in, and Georgina later described their first meeting as “love at first sight” for them both. A few days later, they reconnected at a fashion event, this time with more time to talk and connect.
Ronaldo himself has described Georgina as his “true love,” telling Piers Morgan in a 2019 interview that he would “for sure” marry her. But their romance came with unexpected challenges. Her growing fame made it impossible to keep working in retail. While working at Prada’s El Corte Ingles store, constant visits from fans hoping to see Ronaldo — and relentless paparazzi attention — forced her to leave.
