An Enugu man, Ozioma Okonkwo, who was falsely accused by his wife of raping their two young daughters, has been declared innocent following a thorough medical investigation that confirmed no act of defilement occurred.
According to reports, the shocking incident began last month when Chisom Okonkwo, Ozioma’s wife, filed a complaint with the police, alleging that her husband had sexually assaulted their two- and five-year-old daughters. The case immediately drew public outrage, leading to Ozioma’s arrest and temporary detention.
However, medical examinations and investigations later revealed that the children were not sexually abused, contradicting the mother’s claims.
Further findings exposed that Chisom fabricated the story to “teach her husband a lesson” after years of marital disagreements — allegedly due to Ozioma’s smoking habit and their constant domestic disputes.
Following the revelation, authorities charged Chisom with defamation of character, false information, and misleading law enforcement officials.
Community members expressed outrage over the false accusation, calling for stronger legal measures to deter individuals from weaponising false claims of sexual assault.
Meanwhile, Ozioma, who spent several days in detention, has urged the public to allow justice to take its course, stating that the experience has left him “emotionally shattered.”
The Enugu State Police Command confirmed the ongoing prosecution, emphasizing that false accusations of rape not only destroy lives but also undermine real victims of sexual abuse.
